Topic2The U of G Program Management Office
The PMO has ID’d 100+ active/ pipeline projects totalling $40M
With the creation of the IT Governance Council (ITGC) and its oversight into IT projects across campus, a second necessary step was setting up a Program Management Office (PMO) in order to track, monitor and review current IT projects. While much work was begun in 2018, the PMO will continue to grow and provide increasing value to the University. The focus of the PMO is three-fold:
- Provides an intake process for all IT projects. The PMO has identified more than 100 active/pipeline projects. All active projects are tracked and reviewed for redundancies, funding, and resource allocation.
- Makes recommendations for a subset of large-scale projects to move up to the ITGC for review and approval.
- Develops and educates the institution on best practices related to project management. The PMO can act as a resource and provide the guidance, tools, and processes to support departments in building their own business cases and managing their own projects.
With vastly improved oversight into all IT initiatives on campus, the stage is set for more valuable and streamlined IT investment with improved efficiencies, cost savings, and better utilization of resources to enable the academic mission of the University.
