Topic6Signage That Meets Students Where They're At
Finding ways to communicate effectively with students can be challenging, as they are inundated with information and do not rely on their U of G email as heavily as staff and faculty. There are many campus services intended to support students in myriad ways – academically, mentally, socially, etc., but if students never find out about them, they are not much use! Thus, finding effective and innovative ways to share messages with students has become an important quest on campus.
The Digital Signage program at U of G was nominated for the 2019 Apex Awards in the educational category. See the submission video here!
Enter University Centre (UC) digital screens! Launched in September 2018, the UC now has 10 digital screens and four tandem screens, to help get important messaging to students in a convenient and timely manner, through a relevant and relatable medium. Together with the UC marketing team, Kevin Jinde, Senior Analyst with CCS, works with many campus departments to help increase the breadth of messages reaching students. With many other departments interested to partner, the long-term plan is to have digital screens across campus that can share content, and potentially turn into a much larger program that involves wayfinding and other important campus messaging.
